Therapeutic relaxation for improved health and wellbeing.
The Whole Health Model is the foundation of all my wellness services. I believe that being healthy is more than exercise and nutrition (aka physical health)…it also includes the other areas of health and wellbeing: relational, intellectual, emotional, and occupational. Massage therapy can provide profound benefits in nearly all of these five areas! Explore the components of the Whole Health Model here.
My approach to massage therapy is rooted in the profound benefits of relaxation. Many people, especially these days, have a chronically engaged sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight). This chronic activation is called the stress response. Fight or flight is a useful reaction (when encountering a bear, for example!) but does little good when it's switched on all the time...in fact, it can cause chronic pain, anxiety, tension, and illness. One way to counteract the stress response is to engage the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) by doing restorative things...things like massage therapy!
Weather you are training for a race, looking for a way to manage stress or anxiety, or suffer from chronic pain, therapeutic massage may help!
Everyone is unique....different body types, ailments, and medical history...so your massage treatment should be unique too. I use a blend of techniques (Swedish, deep tissue, sports, myofascial, trigger-point, and passive stretching) to create a customized session for your specific needs that day.
Therapeutic massage has been proven to decrease pain and anxiety and can be an effective therapy for a variety of ailments such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, headaches, chronic pain, stress, and depression. Regular massage can also be effective at relieving symptoms, and further onset of, repetitive stress injuries (RSI) such as carpal tunnel syndrome.
Oncology massage is Swedish relaxation massage that is modified for gentle pressure and comfortable positioning. This type of massage, when delivered by a trained therapist, is safe for any cancer patient at any stage of treatment. Massage has been proven to reduce pain and anxiety, and may also provide relief from the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation such as: nausea, insomnia, neuropothy, depression, muscle aches, and fatigue.
I am a Preferred Practitioner with the Society for Oncology Massage and have completed over 90 hours of training and hands-on practical work in cancer and hospital-based massage.

No tipping: I view massage therapy as, well...therapeutic and an important part of your healthcare. You wouldn't tip your physical therapist or chiropractor, right? I appreciate the gesture of tipping as a way to say "thank you". But the best way to thank me? Refer a friend. And if you save your tip money you'll be able to receive more massage therapy!
Cancellations: If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment please contact me at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise, you will be charged a $30 cancellation fee. This must be paid in full prior to your next appointment.
Late arrivals: If you arrive late I may need to shorten your session to accommodate the day's schedule. You will be charged the full amount.
No shows: You will be charged the full amount for the session you missed. This must be paid in full prior to your next appointment.
What to Expect
Plan to arrive about 10-15 minutes early for your first appointment. This will give us time to review your New Client Form, talk about your reasons for coming, and discuss your goals. Based on this information, I'll create a treatment plan especially for you!
If this is your first oncology massage session, please fill out the additional Oncology History Form so that I can understand what adjustments might need to be made for your safety and comfort. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask.
During the session you can feel at ease that you will be fully draped (under a sheet and blanket) at all times...only the area being worked will be exposed. I will also check in with you from time to time for feedback on what feels effective and on pressure tolerance (we will use a scale of 1-10). Massage should never feel painful...ever. Since you know your body best, it is critical that you feel encouraged to communicate what you are experiencing so my work can be as effective as possible for you.
