Packable Snacks For Summer Adventures

The heat of summer doesn’t make it easy to pack healthy snacks that won’t turn into a gross mess. But it’s important to pack nourishing bites when you’re out adventuring!

Some important rules of snacks (in my opinion):

Pre-packaged snacks can have LOTS of unnecessarily added sugar (and even other terrible ingredients like artificial stuff…no thanks!). So when I’m shopping for bars/snacks/etc. I look for less than 10 grams of sugar per serving, ingredients I can pronounce, and preferably containing a bit of fat, protein, and fiber for maximum satiety. Oh, and absolutely NO corn syrup of any kind, artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives!

Here are some of my favorite nourishing and delicious snacks that won’t melt, crumble, or get messy…toss them right in your hiking pack or beach bag!

Pre-packaged options:

These choices are lowest in added sugar and are as real as you can get while still being convenient to find in most stores…

Kind granola bars (especially Cinnamon Oat and Maple Pumpkin Seed….lowest in sugar)

Kind Pineapple-Banana Kale pressed snack bars (contains kale!!)

Healthy Warrior chia bars

RxBars

Nut butter single-serve packets (like Justin’s brand)

Seapoint Farms dry roasted edamame

Biena chickpea snacks

Trader Joe’s roasted plantain chips

Unsweetened coconut flakes

Barnana chewy banana bits

Moon Cheese snacks

Tuna single-serve pouches

Mighty grassfed jerky sticks

Whole food options:

Baby carrots (dip into a nut butter packet!)

Apples (squeeze a nut butter packet on each bite!)

Nuts and seeds like walnuts, almonds, pistachios, and pumpkin seeds

Dates or figs

Frozen grapes or clementine wedges

Roasted chickpeas or edamame (make your own instead of buying pre-packaged!)

Some more ideas if you have a small cooler pack:

Individually wrapped cheese sticks

Melon balls

Roasted sweet potatoes (You think I’m crazy, right? They are cold, sweet, and amazing on a hot day…especially with just a touch of sea salt. They’re one of my go-to snacks I keep in a little cooler in the car when I go out for a trail run!)

Olives

Hummus cup

Raw veggies (carrots, peppers, zucchini, cuke slices, cherry tomatoes)

Have fun out there and keep up the sustenance for all your summer adventures! Hey and don’t forget the bug spray and sun protection!! :)
